Donating to Ukrainian Army with Wise app
February 27, 2022Figuring out how to donate to the Ukrainian Armed Forces has unfortunately been a very confusing process. I've looked for several ways on how to do this, and have found this to be the most straightforward way. It involves transferring through SWIFT using the Wise app.
NOTE: The first thing you should try is to donate money with a credit card. This process unfortunately did not work for me, but you might have better luck. You can find this option here. Look for the green button that says Transfer from a card.
If you got an error with this process, then we will move forward with making a transfer in the Wise app.
First, download the Wise app from Android/iOS app store, and set up your account. This should be the first (non-advertisement) application that shows up when you search in the store.
Add the recipient
1. On the bottom navigation bar of the application, select Recipients, when click Add in the top right.
2. Select A business / organisation
Select your currency
The National Bank of Ukraine has a list of currencies they are accepting on their webpage (hint: use your Browser to translate the page). We have to narrow down this list to the currencies that the Wise app will let us transfer with SWIFT or IBAN.
If your preferred currency is not listed, USD / EUR will work fine (Wise will transfer the currency for you in-app)
- USD
- EUR
- CHF
- JPY
For convenience, I have included the account number or the SWIFT code that you will send the funds to. Please give yourself a sanity check by cross-checking this information through these sites:
**For all options, leave the "Their email" field blank**
USD
Select SWIFT method of transfer
- Include the following information:
- Name of business / organization: National Bank of Ukraine
- SWIFT / BIC code: NBUAUAUX
- Account number: 400807238
- Recipient Address:
- Country: Ukraine
- City: Kyiv
- Recipient Address: 9 Instytutska St
- Post Code: 01601
EUR
Select either Inside Europe / Outside Europe, depending on your location
- Full name of the account holder: National Bank of Ukraine
- SWIFT / BIC Code (if you selected Outside Europe): NBUAUAUX
- IBAN: DE05504000005040040066
CHF
- Name of business / organization: National Bank of Ukraine
- IBAN: CH32 0070 0070 0012 2757 2
JPY
Select SWIFT method of transfer
- SWIFT / BIC: NBUAUAUX
- IBAN / Account number: 653-0430048
Send the money
At this point, you should be able to send the money to the newly added recipient. The SWIFT system unfortunately takes a little longer to arrive than some other methods (estimated time to arrival for me was 4 days), but it should be a smoother process than most other methods.
Running into problems? Need help?
If you are confused about any part of the process, then likely others are as well. You are helping everyone by leaving a comment and asking for help.
It breaks my heart to see how much difficulty people are having in donating money to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It is my hope that by having a more straightforward process, we can increase the money flow to help their defense.
